Maxine Savery, the Founder and Executive Director of Gracious Hands Charity, LTD, a non-profit organization that helps children, mothers, and the less fortunate.
I was raised in a Jamaican family where sharing, giving, and caring were valued. I migrated from Jamaica to the United States at a young age and felt incredibly fortunate to have so many opportunities ahead of me. I returned to Jamaica a few years later to attend the burial of my dearly beloved grandmother. I noticed several children in need and began to ponder how I might be able to assist or simply give back to the community. On my next trip to Jamaica, I decided to buy a few additional goods, such as pencils, pens, books, sweets, and stuff them into brown paper bags to present to children who crossed my path while I was there on vacation. After that, I made it a point to acquire additional products throughout the year and make an effort to give these items out whenever I visited my hometown in Jamaica. After years of thought and reflection, I decided it was time to start a non-profit organization to help families in need throughout the United States and the Caribbean countries.
In May 2022, I successfully established Gracious Hands Charity, LTD. with the help of my family and friends. The organization is a 501(c)(3) as of June 2022.
